UNREGISTERED SIM CARDS IN PAPUA NEW GUINEA WILL BE DEACTIVATED AFTER APRIL 30

COMMUNICATIONS MINISTER BASIL REGISTERS HIS SIM CARDS, SENDING A STRONG SIGNAL THAT UNREGISTERED SIM CARDS BE DEACTIVATED AFTER APRIL 30

Papua New Guinea's State Minister for Communications, Information Technology and Energy, Hon. Sam Basil has made a full effort out of his busy schedule to get all his three subscriber identity module (SIM) cards registered.

This has sent a strong message nationwide that there will be no more extension of the cut-off date. The D-Day is April 30.

With exactly six more days to go, the records of registration from the three telecommunications companies in the country-Digicel PNG Limited, Telikom PNG Limited and Bemobile Vodafone-indicate overwhelmingly.

The registration is part of the ONeill-Abel government's cyber-security preparation for the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) leader's summit in November this year and beyond, he said.

In a media address, Mr Basil said any telecommunication caught redhanded in the act of allowing UNREGISTERED SIM CARDS to be still in use- be fined K50,000 for a single card.
