PNG DEFENCE MINISTER SOLAN MIRISIM CONSIDERS DISCHARGING A SOLDIER ALLEGED TO HAVE INFLICTED SERIOUS INJURIES ON A MEDICAL DOCTOR.

MINISTER Solan Mirisim assured his relatives and the executives of PNG National Doctors Association that he would get down to the bottom of the assault matter.

The member of the force resorted to this upon allegation of his father's death was due to professional negligence at a hospital in Port Moresby.

Mirisim is fuming over the serious injuries the doctor sustained from that assault inflicted on him by the member of PNG Defence Force.

Assuring PNG National Doctors Association and his relatives, Mr Mirisim told Parliament yesterday (Friday) that he ‘will make sure this particular officer is dismissed once and for all.’

He was responding to questions raised by Ijititari MP Richard Masere during Question Time on whether there was any mechanism in place to discipline the culprit to avoid its repeat in the future.

His question was in relation to the assault. Mr Masere said the officers undergo intensive trainings which most civilians do not so when they launch assaults on them, the injuries are always severe as is the case. He said that the doctor sustained eye and hearing injuries.

“We are investigating the issue. He (culprit) has been locked up at Boroko Police cell. He is going to be charged. We have zero tolerance on assault and ill-disciplines,” he
 said.

Responding to the question, he said the disciplinary action the force takes is to give marching orders. “This is not the first time. He was dismissed from the force...Now he has been reinstated. We will take action on him after the civil charges are laid against him,” he said.
