Shongol's temporary appointment was made possible following his predecessor Paulius Korni who has appointed to head PNG's foreign mission in India.
Mr Korni was released officially from the DCI in late July this year and joined the Department of Foreign Affairs.
He has not taken up his post yet in India.
Minister Sam Basil has thanked the former Secretary for his services, urging him to continue his best to represent the people in the foreign mission.
His call was extended to him promote PNG as a food bowl having huge potential in Agriculture, so India can assist and participate where possible.
Meanwhile, the lobby for the position has taken momentum, according to internal sources.
